POST OFFICE BAY, THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

Post Office Bay , on Floreana Island, has origins dating back to the 19th century when whalers would leave there mail in a wooden barrel.
 
That's the way they still do it.
 
 
Visitors can then take the letters and cards back with them and deliver them - by hand - to a fellow traveller in their home country
 
Over the years, the impressive man-made pile of driftwood has seen over 1700 letters left behind - in hopes of making it to their recipient
